7 tips for eating healthy on a budget!
Eating healthy can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be!

#1 Plan your meals for the week. When you plan ahead, you are more likely to stick to your meal plan. This keeps you away from spending money at the drive thru or at a restaurant. Most meals from a restaurant can be prepared in home for a third of the price. You also have more control of the ingredients used.

# 2 Make “Meal Prep Monday” (or Sunday) a weekly occurrence. Not only does it keep you on track with healthy eating, it’s a money saver! Plan multiple meals from the same ingredients. Enjoy marinated chicken breasts one night, then slice leftovers and add sautéed peppers for fajitas the next. Use remaining breasts to make chicken and wild rice soup for lunch!

#3 Download local grocery store apps on your smart phone. My favorite is Kroger. You can download the free app, enter your Kroger Plus card serial number (each card is unique) and create a log in. The site tells you what’s on sale at the store at that moment! It also has a feature that allows you to download electronic coupons in seconds! The more coupons you download and redeem, the more in store coupons you receive for cash off your next order and even free items! All you have to do is have to cashier scan your card and the coupons are redeemed automatically! You even accumulate gas points that you can track and redeem automatically at the pump! I paid $0.88 per gallon on gas 2 weeks ago!!

The reason why your detox won’t work

One of the FAQ’s I receive is about detox/cleanse programs.  Individuals want to know the best detox plan to follow to get maximum weight loss results in the shortest amount of time.  This question makes me cringe, and here’s why.

Many of the juice detox recipes contain natural ingredients with antioxidants that promote health which is great! The drink itself is not my issue. Dieters decide to complete a 7 to 21 day juice cleanse. The individual loses weight and feel fantastic! Once the challenge is over the weight creeps back on. You know why? Because you committed to the detox/cleanse, but you didn't commit to improving your health. To lose weight permanently you must commit to the lifestyle!
You can do a juice/cayenne pepper cleanse every other month but you will continually chase your tail, losing and gaining the same 10lbs. The primary reason cleanses work for weight loss is because they dramatically decrease your caloric intake! Your stomach appears flatter for a short amount of time because you ingested a ton of fiber which aided in the digestive process, and stopped eating foods that cause bloat. You’ll feel great for a short amount of time because you are not ingesting processed food products. Sure, you’ll lose weight, but you will gain it back as soon as you return to normal eating habits.

Starving yourself ruins the way your body processes food into energy. This process is called metabolism, and it is responsible for your body’s cellular regeneration.  Starving yourself affects your body in many ways other than fat loss. Extremely low caloric intake can lead to the destruction of body organs.
There is no quick fix. If you want it you must work for it.

One of my clients stated last night after a training session...."Nobody knows the size of my pants!" and that is so true. Progress in fitness is much more than the number on the scale or the actual size of your pants. Non scale victories include inches lost and muscles gained. It's about getting through that once seemingly impossible workout. It's about resisting the temptation to eat for convenience sake but eating a healthy meal. The improvement in your diabetes, high blood pressure or lung disease is a victory! The benefits of physical exercise can spill over into other aspects if your life.
