With proper diet and exercise, you can strengthen your immunity so that you are better equipped to fight off the virus should the worst happen and you become infected.
And while gyms and studios are considered non-essential and have been forced to close indefinitely, many members of the fitness community are volunteering their time and expertise to help you stay healthy by offering these FREE online fitness classes. Here are our favorites:
Kundalini Yoga, Fridays at 4:00PM ET
The Pilates Principle of Latham, NY, is offering a FREE Kundalini Yoga class on Fridays at 4:00PM which “offers the student rejuvenation, cleansing, strength, focus, and connection with the truth of our being”. According to the listing, “each class contains elements of sound, breath practice, physical warm ups and movements which impact the mind as well as the glandular and endocrine systems, deep rest, and meditation to expand awareness and support well-being. It is a dynamic practice with an array of soft to strong actions that challenge, enhance energy, vitality, peace, and all around health”.
This class is streamed via ZOOM Video Conferencing so be sure to have it installed in your computer or phone. To participate in this class, you must register online at www.LathamPilates.com. Once registered, you will receive an email invitation 15 minutes prior to the start of class, which will include a link to the streaming video.
Body Weight Basics, Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 11:00AM ET
NASM-CPT certified personal trainer Shawn Russell of Los Angeles, CA, is offering Body Weight Basics – Beginner Home Workout on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00AM Eastern Time (8:00AM PT) for people who have little experience or have never worked out before. Through this 50-minute class, Shawn will teach you how to “stabilize your body in order to build strength and power through your workouts”. All you need is an exercise mat, or if you don’t have one, a bath towel.
This class is streamed via Facebook LIVE. To participate, friend/follow Shawn on Facebook. This class is FREE, but if you want to show your appreciation for Shawn’s time and expertise, you can send him a donation of any amount you choose through Paypal.
Barre & Yoga, Two Classes Every Day
The Hot Yoga Spot of Guilderland, NY, is offering 2 FREE classes everyday which include a variety of barre and yoga workouts–see schedule below. They also offer virtual community events and series “to help people stay connected to each other and prioritize wellness” at affordable prices. If you can’t make it to any of the live classes, you can access the video library at a time that is more convenient for you.
Classes are streamed online via ZOOM Video Conferencing. To stay up-to-date and connected with the teachers and the THYS community, join their Facebook group. These classes are FREE, but if you want to financially support the instructor and studio, you can do so by signing up for the class online right before the start of class.
