Put your paddling skills to the test and for a good cause at the next Soundsurfer Waterman’s Challenge! Every June, the Soundsurfer Foundation hosts this much anticipated event to raise funds for local charities that protect our natural water resources, particularly the Long Island Sound, and the well-being of our children.

Its past beneficiaries include Earthplace, Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, The Naomi Berrie Pediatric Diabetes Center, and For Our Children’s Unlimited Success (F.O.C.U.S.) who have been able to continue to work towards their goals of fulfilling their mission, thanks to the efforts of organizations like Soundsurfer, and to the generosity of staff, volunteers, participants and fans who get involved to make sure the fundraising event is a success.

One of the biggest paddling races in the Northeast, the Soundsurfer Waterman’s Challenge is certain to attract many of the world’s top paddlers to compete for the $1,700 cash purse. This race isn’t just for SUP racers, but also other types of paddlers including kayaks, outriggers and surf skis. It’s also open to all levels, with a 6-mile course for the elites, a 3-mile course for the recreational, and a 1-mile course for children. PFD’s and leashes are required for racers, as per Coast Guard rules.

But being the biggest, most competitive race isn’t Soundsurfer’s priority, rather its ability to bring together paddlers from all walks of life to celebrate the stoke of paddling while raising much needed funds for the local environment and children. There are also all-day demos, a hula-hoop contest, live music and food so it’s fun for the whole family!
