A group of 20-something year old friends in Vancouver, British Columbia, decided they wanted to use a recreational sport they love to do regularly to give back to the community, and in 2006, Kayak For A Cure was born. Over the last decade, this cause organization has raised a total of $250,000 to help fund the efforts of charities such as the American Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Inspire Health and SickKids Foundation working to find a cure against various cancerous diseases.
Entering its 10th year in service, Kayak For A Cure grows strong but stays true to its roots as it continues to be powered by volunteers and local supporter and gives 100% of its proceeds directly to its charitable partners. Now being hosted in 9 cities in Canada and the United States, this annual summer event brings together hundreds of paddlers of all levels to cross waterways, bays, lakes and channels in order to to become part of the solution, raising funds for programs, research and patient services, and giving hope to individuals and families affected by cancer.
