If you tune in regularly to watch The Doctors, Dr. Steve, Fox News, and The Oprah Winfrey Show, then you may just recognized Dr. Emily Splichal, a.k.a. Dr. Legs, a Celebrity Podiatrist, Human Movement Specialist, Creator of the Catwalk Confidence Program and Author to “Everyday Is Your Runway: A Shoe Lover’s Guide to Healthy Feet & Legs”.
GFSC has partnered with Dr. Splichal to bring you this unique fitness program that will strengthen your feet and legs and teach you how to properly strut in stilettos so that you avoid (and relieve) the common foot, knee and leg problems associated with wearing heels. We sat down with Dr. Splichal to get the low-down on Catwalk Confidence and her book “Everyday Is Your Runway” as we gear up to bring this fitness program to your area. See what she had to say:
GFSC: Hi, Dr. Splichal. Thank you for taking time off your busy schedule to speak with us so let’s get right down to business. Many women are already familiar with Catwalk Confidence–but for those that are not, what exactly is it?
Dr. Emily Splichal: Catwalk Confidence is a brand centered around teaching women the importance of proper posture and body alignment as it begins from the foot up. Through my book and workout program, I teach women how to make foot health and fitness fun, practical..and a little sexy! Catwalk Confidence: The Workout is a barefoot balance training or vertical Pilates class that uniquely targets all the muscles we women need to stand strong and confident. Whether women wear high heels or not, this workout is designed to tone the hips, core and glutes…and is a fun addition to any woman’s fitness program!
GFSC: Why do you think Catwalk Confidence is something that women should incorporate into their regular fitness routine?
ES: I strongly believe everyone should be incorporating the exercises integrated in the Catwalk Confidence Workout. The entire Catwalk Confidence Workout is done barefoot and on one leg, which is one of the most effective ways to build strong feet, improve balance and tighten the booty!
GFSC: What are some of the common foot problems that women face from wearing stilettos and, aside from engaging in the Catwalk Confidence program, what else can women do to avoid these problems?
ES: Some of the most common foot problems associated with high heels are the typical bunions, hammertoes, corns and callouses. The Catwalk Confidence Workout is designed to strengthen the feet and ankles so women feel strong in their high heels. In addition to barefoot work, women who wear high heels frequently, or actually, everyone, should be doing daily stretching of their feet and ankles. Whether we sit, stand or walk all day, the muscles that support and move our feet get tight. Daily stretching of the calves and standing on golf balls is a must for any woman who loves high heels!
GFSC: For women that already have these foot problems, what do you suggest they do to relieve those problems?
ES: Foot mobility and foot stability is the key to fabulous feet! I like to recommend daily stretching and weekly barefoot work to anyone who is beginning to experience foot pain or foot deformity.
GFSC: Now tell us about your book “Everyday Is Your Runway”. What is the book about?
ES: “Everyday Is Your Runway” is like every woman’s go-to-guide for sexy feet and legs! This book is full of easy, quick tips for keeping our feet and legs attractive and strong. I discuss everything from the common ailments of the “stiletto foot” and what women can do to combat many of these problems, to stiletto posture and mastering the “stiletto strut”. The best part, I think, is that it is written with the advice of a doctor but the voice of a shoe-lover.
GFSC: When does your book come out?
ES: My book is already out!! Women can read an excerpt from the book on my website. I’m planning the official launch party for Spring 2012 after women are ready to get out of the boots and back in their stilettos!
GFSC: We will certainly be on the lookout for that! But in the meantime, for those interested in participating in the Catwalk Confidence program, or purchasing the book, where can they find more information about them?
ES: By simply visiting my website at CatwalkConfidence.com.
