Sweatin’ It Out at the Hot Yoga Spot

Whether you are a devoted yogi or have never practiced yoga before, you have most likely heard about its wonderful restorative benefits. I was lucky enough to have been introduced to yoga last summer. Since my first class, I have visited several studios and practiced with many different instructors.

This past May, in my research for GFSC, I sent out an email to Jess at The Hot Yoga Spot to see if she would like to participate in an instructor-rotating yoga series.  She sweetly responded and asked if GFSC would like to host a special event at The Hot Yoga Spot facility.

For those of you who do not know what “hot yoga” is, it is yoga of any style performed in a room of 90-100°F. Now, in truth,  I always thought hot yoga was for the clinically insane; who in God’s name would willingly practice yoga in a sauna?!  Well, being the Director of GFSC-Albany, I couldn’t book an event and not attend so, I went.  Since that class, I have become the annoying “infomercial.”  I have never sweat so much in my life, felt so refreshed, or glowed so brightly! I still practice yoga at regular temperatures, but jump at any chance I get to attend a class at The Hot Yoga Spot.  At higher temperatures our muscles are already much more forgiving and willing to stretch than at normal temperatures.

As someone with a long list of injuries, hot yoga has been a blessing!  I never ache after class, it is almost as if I have purchased a new body, one free of ailments. That in itself is worth the sweat!  I have since convinced several of my friends to try it, and have never had to “convince” them to come again… we are even happy to get up at 5:30 in the morning to ensure we’d make it to the 6:45 a.m. class!  When my friends ask me to describe it, I tell them “I sweat out every bad decision I have ever made!”  Now, who wouldn’t want to do that?!
